Syrian UNESCO landmark under critical threat from ISIS

ISIS’ advancement into the city and the control they have on the archeological area, including the museum of Palmyra, is the worst scenario for the priceless cultural heritage hosted by the city. According to official Syrian sources the majority of the objects stored at the museum of Palmyra have been transferred to a “safe haven”. However, some objects have been impossible to remove and the whole archeological site is now under critical threat of lootings and massive destructions. The near future would be decisive for the survival of the city's  monuments, andpopulation.

UNESCO and Syrian official DGAM as well as monitoring groups have raised great fears on the current situation of the site.

Palmyra is inscribed on UNESCO whl site. Read more about Palmyra here.
